Tag....I'm it!

Ok, so clearly from the lack of blogging, you can see that I am struggling to find topics that are interesting (it is hard to compare even a very interesting day here with climbing a canyon or scaling a mountain in south america...)

But...thankfully for my friend Greta and her blog (www.newtypeofnesting.blogspot.com), I have found my inspiration.

Essentially, it is a game of grown-up tag combined with a self-esteem boost all at once. Here are the rules:

1) Write 3 things about myself I like
2) Tag 3 more people
3) Go on in peace

Now I have always considered myself a pretty confident person. But seriously, thinking of 3 things about myself that I like and putting them into words has proven more dificult than I thought! Anyway, here goes...

1. I am a "do-er." Now of course I have been known to procrastinate from time to time but overall, I do what I say I'm going to do. When I decided that I missed school, I got my MBA. When I said I had always wanted to volunteer abroad, I traveled for 6 months teaching. I hope this is a trait I never lose.

2. I am optimistic. Now I'm sure I have been accused of being Polly Anna and that there have been many rolls of the eyes at my overly positive and shiny attitude but that is just how I am. I naturally think people a good, things will turn out well and if you work at it, absolutely ANY dream can come true. (ok....you can startyour eye-rolling now)

3. I am passionate. Everything from walking 60 miles, 6 times to fight breast cancer to fighting passionately over the color of next months Yoplait coupon, I don't think anyone has ever accused me of being complacent. When I decide something is a passion of mine, watch out. And I seem to find a new one everyday....

Ok. So the hard part os over. Whew!

Now it's time for me to tag 3 others! So some of you have blogs and others don't but if you do have a blog, post this on your blog! And if not...please try to do this as a comment on MY blog. It really is fun. It's a challenge but I promise you that you will go to your next meeting feeling a little bit more like you are an optimistic, passionate, do-er!

Ok Kara, Rachel, Michelle Peterson, Chris and Liz and Mom....go on....Tag....YOU'RE IT!

xoxo,
Debra

Oh, crap! I've been tagged!:
(Ok, let me preface this by saying that my writing skills would not make a list of the top 1,000 things that I like about myself. In spite of this fact I have found myself friends with a women who is not only a good writer she is a GREAT writers. And now I have been asked to write something about myself on her brilliant blog. This is really just not fair but here goes...)

1. My Feet- I know this may seem like an odd thing to say, but when I stop to think about what I really like about myself my feet are the first thing to come to mind. They are really cute, and not everyone can say that. In addition to looking good, they also work hard. They have carried me through multiple Breast Cancer 3Day walks and countless nights in high heels, and still look darn cute so I think they deserve recognition :-)

2. The way I interact with animals. I really believe that I have a knack with animals. They respond differently to me than they do to other people. I don't know exactly how to describe it but I feel like I connect with them. And they make me happy in a deep down really powerful way. No matter what I am doing, or who I am with if I see an cute animal, (especially a dog) I have to stop and if possible pet it. I know that tons of people love animals but I don't think that they respond to everyone the way they do with me, and I like that.

3. My spirituality. And I want to be clear this does not mean religion,(although I do love that too) but I am referring to my core belief in a higher power. Oprah calls it the Universe on her show and I think that is a great way to put it. It permeates my life but not in a weird way. I just have this wonderful sense of comfort in knowing that everything happens for a reason, I laugh a little harder at the little funny things that happen, I get the chills when things "just work out" because I know why....

Alright, there you go. I warned you it wasn't going to be pretty. I hope it wasn't too painful to read.

I am not sure if I can really tag people since I don't actually have a blog but in keeping with the game...tag Sam Rosen, tag Julie Brichta, tag David Stillman

I will now “go in peace”…..

Peace out yo!

Where to start. So many things to choose from. :) I've got one... modesty! I guess my sense of humor won't cut it either. Well, here goes.

1. Selflessness. I always look for the path towards making everyone else happy with disregard for my own wants. And I'm constantly putting myself in a position for others to make fun of me or laugh at me, which some people have told me they admire.

2. Karaoke performances. I can't lie, I love performing. But I have to be completely honest, and point out that I am not a talented singer. Fortunately, I can read a crowd, and my song choice and ability to work around my limitations has led to me becoming renowned (or perhaps imfamous :) for my karaoke performances.

3. Faith in humanity. I could repeat Debra's optimistic sentiments word-for-word, and that would do perfectly. I inherently believe that people's motivations are good, and find that most of the time they are, even when they don't appear to be.

Wow! With all that self-love, I feel like I should be insulting myself now, bringing a bit of yang to all that yin above.

Maybe that can be the topic of Debra's next blog post - 3 things you hate about yourself. Perhaps not propagating this thread into my own (admittedly retired) blog would earn a mention.

Ciao for now.

Hmmmm, only 3 things? Where do I start? (smile)
1. Best quality is definitely my sense of humor. My sarcasm definitely gets me in trouble with people who don't know me well. I am quick witted and have zero tolerance for people who don't see the humor in situations or don't "get-it"
2. I think I am a good writer and communicator. I think my writing skills came early to me because of my love of reading and ability to write just as I speak. I credit being a good communicator to 2 things. A woman's group I've been in for 20 years (or as Debra likes to refer to it as a secret society) We developed good communication skills both as a group and individually. 2nd and most important, I am an avid listener of talk radio (with both conservative and liberal slants) and have learned what words make a punch and which ones put people into comas.
3. I think of myself as a good grandma. No, scratch that. I AM A GREAT GRANDMA!!!! Love to hang out with them, teach them, watch them, smell them, hug them, discipline them (at times). Wish I had the patience with my own kids when I raised them.
So there are my 3 bragging points!!!
Love, Mom
